U.S. Inflation By Year

The U.S. inflation rate is based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index (CPI). This page contains a history of the yearly inflation since the inception of the CPI in 1913. If you'd like to convert prices from one year to another year or compare purchasing power, you should use our inflation calculator.

The current annual inflation rate is 2.89%. The current inflation rate is determined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics roughly every month, although its report is delayed as they collect the necessary information in order to determine inflation.
